Well, I tried my hand at a BBD cupcake pinkeep this
week. I really like how it turned out, but boy was
this a bugger to make. I fiddled and fiddled with this
till I got it to look right. The top is filled with crushed
walnut shells and it was a bit tricky to get it to fit
in the box correctly and not smash the ric rac.
I guess it just takes practice. I have another one stitched
up in brown, so I guess that will get me some more of
that practice I need : ) BTW...I stitched this with
one of the red hand dyed flosses I got from Nancy
at Victorian Motto Sampler Shoppe. It's really
wonderful thread. And, I used a tiny paper mache
box bottom for the base. It's only 2" across at the top.
I had to improvise since the turned wooden bases
that are called for are almost $30 each.

I also wanted to show you this other version
of Stacy Nash's, Remember Me pillow that I
just finished up. This was stitched for a
wonderful customer and sweet friend,
so I'm hoping she loves it. She asked me to
change the colors a bit and I love the
different look it gives to it.
Well, time to get some more stitching done
before heading off to work. Thanks for stopping
by to visit and have a fabulous weekend.

Your cupcake is wonderful. Can you tell a little more about what you use for the base? Is it a round box or a filled tube?Has BBD ever done a tutorial on them?
ReplyDeleteI would love to try my hand at one of these, since they seem to be all the rage right now. Would also make a great exchange finish. Thanks for sharing yours.
What wonderful finishes. I really love the cupcake. I'm definitely going to have to try my hand at making one of these. I think that they're just the nicest things.

ReplyDeleteNan, you did a superb job on this pincushion and can't forget that little 'cup cake' ... so very sweet.
ReplyDeleteYour new designs are perfect. Smaller creations are so time consuming, so I can relate with the cup cake dilemma. Am Enjoying my visit here ... nice break for me. Enjoy the day and thanks for all the sharing. ;o) Barb VFA=Village Folk Art
